Abstract

Possible technologies for the storage of electricity include pumped storage, batteries and fuel cells, hydrogen as an energy vector, flywheel systems and superconducting magnetic energy storage, amongst others. The review considers the demand in Europe for electricity storage, the economics of different sizes and types of installation and the effects of national and regional differences.
