Résumé

Since most geothermal resources in the world are liquid dominated, some having a high rate of non condensable gases and/or TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), their exploitation may not pay or may be impossible with conventional technology i.e. single or dual flash cycles. Two-phase expansion systems are more promising as they are thermodynamically more effective. Recovery of the whole energy of the geothermal resource (Total Flow Concept) means that to compete with a flashed steam turbine, a two phase flow turbine needs only to reach 40% efficiency, without consideration of material, operation and maintenance costs which could be lessened. A test bench has been implemented, comprising the generation of pressurised liquid and steam, capable of achieving the simulation of water dominated geothermal brines. Single and two phase inlet injection nozzles have been tested alone and with different turbine housing configurations.
