Abstract

Passive solar systems have been applied in the warmer European climates, around the Mediterranean and in Portugal. The design has to provide a combination of heating in winter and protection from heat in summer. The necessity for these efforts was illustrated during the summer of 1987 when hundreds of people in Greece and Southern Italy died because of the heat. This workshop was organised to provide an overview of ongoing activities in this field.
