REPORTS OF THE SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE FOR FOOD (22ND SERIES)
The present report relates to the opinion of the Scientific Committee for Food on the safety of anti-oxidants. The chemicals considered are L-ascorbic acid and its salts, ascorbyl palmitate, isoascorbic acid, four tocophenols, four tocotrienols and three gallates, as well as BHA, BHT and TBHQ. Sodium L-ascorbate and alpha-tocopherol were found to be acceptable. ADIs were set for gallates and BHT and temporarily for BHA, while isoascorbic acid (erythorbic acid) and TBHQ were considered not acceptable.
