Abstract

This report describes the work done at five laboratories on the certification of six low specific surface area particulate reference materials, RMs 169 to 173 and 175; these include three aluminas with specific surface areas of 0.104, 1.05 and 2.95 m2/g, a natural quartz (2.56 m2/g), a rutile titania (8.23 m2/g) and tungsten (0.181 m2/g). Results for a bronze (0.063 m2/g), which was not certified as a reference material, are also included. Measurements were made by the nitrogen BET method, and details of the methods employed at the five laboratories are given.
