DECONTAMINATION OF CONCRETE BY SURFACE MELTING USING A NEW TYPE OF BURNER IN ASSOCIATION WITH A PLASMA (FEASIBILITY STUDY)

The aims of this research were to determine, by non radioactive experiments, the efficiency of the electro burner for the surface decontamination of concrete. The experimental study has shown that the procedure can decontaminate a wall impregnated with Cs 137. Moreover, the plasma + combustion C(3)H(8) configuration seems to offer a more promising solution than the plasma air configuration, giving low level of NO(x) (20 to 40 ppm for the first configuration, but 1500 to 1700 ppm for the second) and better thermal efficiency of the jet impact. Analysis of these different results is presented in this report, together with an evaluation of the technological possibilities of the process.
