DEVELOPMENT OF METHODS FOR PIT GAS CONTROL
This research has concentrated on four main problems : 1. Flow processes in areas influenced by mining. Here the changes in gas pressure and the permeability are examined and the findings used to calculate the volume flow. 2. Interrelationship between pressure mechanisms and the dynamic gas-evolution processes in coal. As a result of previous experiments and now with a new laboratory test stand, it is possible to test coal samples under pressures of up to 340 MPa for gas-eruption risk. 3. Determining the maximum output in relation to gas bearing factors. 4. Improvements in methods for preventing gas eruption. The literature survey investigated the saturation method. Because of the partially conflicting evidence, further experiments are planned to evaluate whether or not such a method can be used successfully in controlling gas eruption in West German deposits.
