Abstract

The aim of the present work is to develop a new kind of 2 1/4 Cr-1 Mo steel with alloying elements able to increase the high temperature (above 450 C) mechanical properties and to study its behaviour in a hydrogen environment. One way is to add elements such as Ti-B, V with Ti-B, or V with Nb-B. The effects of these additions are examined: - on the mechanical properties of the base metal and of simulated head affected zones, - on high temperature ductility, - on the behaviour in a hydrogen environment. Welded joints are characterised. The development of such a steel depends on the availability of adapted weld products.
