MAGNETIC FIELD, DENSITY AND TEMPERATURE PERTURBATION MEASUREMENTS DURING PELLET INJECTION IN THE TCA TOKAMAK
The injection of a hydrogen pellet into the TCA plasma has a strong impact on its global and internal properties. The plasma response to pellet injection has been measured using a toroidal array of magnetic probes, a poloidal array of soft X-ray detectors and a phase contrast imaging interferometer. The phase contrast device has collected density perturbation information over the minor plasma radius with high spatial resolution. Data from all three of these diagnostics are acquired on a fast time scale. The relaxation process is compared to that of the internal disruption. In addition, the plasma exhibits a decrease of its toroidal velocity immediately following injection, as well as a helical density perturbation associated with rational q surfaces. A plausible interpretation of these phenomena is presented.
