EVALUATION OF INTERNAL ENERGY OF SECONDARY IONS IN LSIMS
In secondary ion mass spectrometry, the extent of fragmentation is reduced when taking the spectra from solution instead of using solid supports. This leads to the concept of energy buffering by the matrix. The object of this article is to achieve an estimation of the internal energy distribution of ions emitted from the matrix in LSIMS and to provide a method for comparing ionisation techniques. This is done by studying the effect of substitution on the fragmentation of probe molecules.
