ENERGY IN GREEK AGRICULTURE AND THE POTENTIAL OF SOLAR TECHNOLOGY
This book is divided into three parts and an annex. The first part describes the general characteristics of the Greek climate, agriculture and energy and compares them with those of the rest of Europe. In the second part the energy requirements of agriculture at the Greek, European and world-wide levels are described. In the third and largest part, solar energy technologies which can cover the energy requirements of agriculture are described. In the beginning, an overview of solar technologies is made, with emphasis on systems which can be applied to agriculture, and the potential of these technologies in meeting energy needs is examined. Besides investigating the most recent bibliography on solar technology applications in agriculture, the book summarises the results of studies in Greek agriculture, giving useful energy statistics which were previously unpublished. In addition, original solar energy technologies are described, which were developed in Greece by the Laboratory of Agricultural Construction at the Agricultural University of Athens and by other Greek research foundations.
