ACTION OF DIFFERENT COKE-BREEZE GRAIN SIZES ON THE REDUCTION OF FUEL CONSUMPTION IN THE SINTERING OF IRON ORE
Extensive trials have been carried out on a two stage coke crusher equipped with roller mills in order to produce different coke-breeze grain sizes. The most important results of these trials are : - The heat consumption is at its highest when using fine coke breeze. - The reduction degradation index rises with increasing median coke breeze grain size, while the ISO strength and the grain size distribution do not notably change. The sulphur content of the sinter shows a clear rise. - Coarser coke breeze leads to improved gas-permeability and consequently to a higher linear sintering velocity. This results in a rise in the sintering rate. - On the whole, coarser coke breeze leads to significant homogenisation of the sinter quality throughout the depth of the bed. - The gas composition beneath the sinter strand indicates no notable change in the course of the process to be caused by the coke-breeze grain size. Temperature and waste-gas profiles shift only heightwise with any change in the measured values, but not lengthwise in their location along the sinter strand.
