Résumé

Jerusalem Artichoke clones now grown in France have many deficiencies: low glucid productivity (about 60% of sugar beet hybrid productivity), susceptibility to leaf diseases, irregular tuber shape and yield instability between locations and years. In order to obtain better clones, 4 previously selected clones (K8, Nahodka, Fuseau 60 and Violet of Rennes) were crossed in a diallel pattern, with two crosses each year from 1986 to 1988. Jerusalem Artichoke was the result of an interspecific hydbridisation and as a consequence the rate of fertility of capitula was low. In total, 5372 achenes with a good germination ability were harvested, each seed having its own genetic formula which can then give rise to a new and distinct clone. After clone selection for the most heritable characters (tuber characters and disease susceptibility) 124 clones are now under development and will be tested for insulin yield and adaptability in subsequent years.
