Abstract

In the industrialised world, radiation protection is one of the factors which must be considered if the quality of life is to be guaranteed. Highlights of achievements of the 1985-1989 Radiation Protection Research Programme are described. Research priorities of the 1990-1991 Programme are presented. The main subject areas to which high priority is given include human exposure to radiation and radioactivity, consequences of radiation exposure to man (assessment, prevention and treatment) and risks and management of radiation exposure.
