NON-DESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION OF STRESS STATES IN STEELS
In residual stress measurement with micromagnetic measuring quantities textures have been identified as a disturbing quantity. In order to separate the influence of texture on micromagnetic measuring quantities from the influence of residual stress, it is first necessary to investigate the influence of textures on these measuring quantities. In this research, the influence of texture on the direction-sensitive measuring quantities (magnetic Barkhausen noise, incremental permeability and dynamic magnetostriction ) and measuring quantities derived from these is investigated. The 3MA (micro magnetic multiparameter microstructure and stress analysis) unit was tested in field applications, where the residual surface stress of a turbine rotor and the hardness variations in an inductive hardened ring were of interest. The results show that the 3MA unit, together with sensors optimised for this particular application, is well suited for a fast and easy non-destructive inspection. The equipment enables qualitative and in some cases also quantitative evaluation of surface stress states and hardness.
