Abstract

The objective of the study was to develop resistance spot welding and projection welding technologies for a variety of zinc-coated materials. Altogether 8 different test materials were examined which differed in both manufacturing method and chemical composition. Some of the test materials were only coated on one side. For the resistance spot welding, broad-ranging tests were conducted to examine the influence on the quality of the weldings of the principal welding parameters, the form of the electrode and the nature of the energy input (direct current, alternating current). In addition, investigations were carried out into the number of weldings which can be performed per electrode life. Resistance projection welding tests were carried out with all the test materials and three different projection geometries.
