Résumé

The purpose of this work is to carry out a detailed expert analysis of heat flow and heat transfer in the molten glass flowing in the channel which links the melting furnace with the machines for shaping the glass. This analysis forms a scientific basis for rational design of these installations, enabling consumption to be reduced and product quality improved. The experiments have made it possible to compare results with those predicted by mathematical models, by combining variables to interpret them. The research is centred on thermal conditioning of molten glass in the forehearth, where it is hoped to reduce or even to eliminate energy consumption. Experimental and theoretical analysis will continue in parallel, to produce a computer program validated by experiment in which the effects of combustion, forced and natural convection and radiation will be combined in various geometrical configurations.
