Abstract

The overall objective of this research is the scaling-up of a polymer electrolyte based rechargeable lithium battery technology, for use in electric vehicle traction. Work has been centred on an elevated temperature system (100-140 C), using standard poly(ethylene oxide) electrolytes. Reports are presented on cell fabrication and testing (for both triflate and perchlorate systems), on studies of V(6) 0(13) behaviour and of alternative cathode materials, including the introduction of mixed conducting media, and thermal modelling studies. Interfacial studies of battery components are also described.
