PASCAUD PASSIVE SOLAR IN COMPUTER AIDED URBAN DESIGNFunded under: FP1-ENNONUC 3C
Following the passive solar project 'Overbos 8', of 275 houses in Haarlemmermeer, Holland, a study was initiated in 1985 on the support of Computer Aided Design systems for subsequent passive solar projects. As a case study, a software package was developed that could be integrated in Haarlemmermeer's urban design CAD system. The result is a (VAX-Intergraph) software package that meets all the requirements of the urban design department of the municipality. As a by-product, the result is also a first exploration into the application of user-orientated methods, techniques and tools that information technology can offer to the development of energy software. Consequently, a reusable development process is produced, resulting in reusable software modules. The ESPRIT-project of the EC regards this as analogous to component reusability in the manufacturing industry and of both cost-cutting and quality enhancing value.
