DETECTEUR PROPORTIONNEL MULTIFILS A LOCALISATION DU SPECTROMETRE X A CRISTAL DU TOKAMAK TORE SUPRA
The development of a new magnetic fusion machine, the Tore Supra, creates new conditions for machines with magnetic confinement, in thermonuclear fusion and nuclear power stations. The object of the work is to study and develop a counter adapted to this new situation: i.e. increased photon flux due to the larger volume of plasma and to the higher emissivity and a hostile environment (fusion neutrons, gamma rays). The detector constructed for the experiments is a proportional multi-wire detector with a locating function. The space resolution of the detector is checked, then the influence of the various dead times is measured, thus indicating what corrections have to be made. The need to operate in a very hostile environment has lead to research on an optical transmission line between the detector and the means of electronic acquisition. The new counter has an enlarged effective area, and its features make it suitable for the crystal X-ray spectrometer of the Tore Supra, although the study may also be useful in other cases of X-ray imaging.
