Abstract

This paper summarises the main insights gained from twenty years of research into how people perceive potentially hazardous technologies. The most important general findings emerged some ten years ago. "Risk perception" and "risk acceptance" are discussed. The stability of public attitudes is commented upon. Some implications of improved communication with the public are presented.
