PROGETTO PILOTA "EUROPA-QUEBEC" L'IDROGENO, UN VETTORE DI ENERGIA PER UN SISTEMA ENERGETICO NON INQUINANTE E RINNOVABILE PROBLEMI E PROSPETTIVE DEL TRASPORTO MARITTIMO DELL'IDROGENO
The "EQHHPP" project aims to develop new systems for providing non-polluting, renewable energy sources before the end of the century. The system is based on hydrogen and could be used alongside existing systems and could replace them gradually. It would be less vulnerable to the effects of environmental policies, the cost of oil and other negative influences. The project is intended to assess the feasibility of using the hydrogen energy vector, produced electrolytically in Quebec and transported by sea to Europe. Two methods of hydrogen vectorisation have been chosen and studied: a) storage in toluene: recent studies have shown the possibility of hydrogenating some chemical substances in liquid form, which may thus be transported by sea, and subsequently de-hydrogenating them. b) the liquefaction of gaseous hydrogen takes place in Quebec using local electrical energy, and the liquified hydrogen is transported by sea to Europe in specially designed ships.
