CHEMISCHE UND PHYSIKALISCHE VEREDLUNG VON KOHLE
First the completion of earlier work is reported, namely the testing of the conical fluidised-bed reactor. By connecting, for example, 6 reactors, the solvent coal ratio can be reduced to 8:1. For the retrieval of the solvent mass, approximately 4% of the thermal energy of the coal is required. Then the following projects are described: 1. A programme of test hydrogenations of fluidised extracts of hard coal. This involved both catalytic and non-catalytic hydrogenation with the reaction pressure reduced to 25MPa. 2. Experimental coprocessing of Ruhr, Saar and Illinois hard coals in Anthracene oil, vacuum residue and a 1:1 mixture of the two. 3. Analysis and subsequent hydrogenation of 5 coals from the Saar and Ruhr fields with the aim of determining the relationship between their petrographic composition and maceral concentrates and their transformability into gaseous, liquid and solid products, and also the extent to which degree of coalification and power of reflectance affect the processes involved. 4. Experiments to employ a conjunction of thermoanalysis and mass spectrometry in order to determine the characteristics of hard coals and describe their decomposition in air and inert gas.
