Abstract

Cadmium toxicity in relation to APH enzymatic polymorphisms has been studied in Physa acuta (Gastropoda) from Lake Comabbio in Italy. No differences have been observed in allelic frequencies between dead and surviving individuals. To evaluate the natural variability of APH, a survey of natural populations has been carried out. Populations from 3 different habitats (Lake Comabbio, a ricefield near Reggio Emilia, Parma River) have shown no differences in APH frequencies. In 2 stations along the Parma River, differences in APH allelic frequencies have been observed, probably related to their high level of water pollution.
