Abstract

Two experiments were performed to measure the energy dependence eta of 235U - the relative number of fission neutrons emitted per neutron absorbed, in the thermal and subthermal neutron energy range. Neutrons from the electron linac pulsed neutron source at Geel and from the ILL reactor in Grenoble were used. Experimental techniques and most of the systematic uncertainties differed in the two experiments. Both measurements showed a slight decrease of eta in the subthermal region of about 2%, as compared with thermal energy, thus supporting conclusions from recent integral experiments.
