SCOPING CALCULATIONS IN SUPPORT OF THE PHEBUS F.P. EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAMME
The Commission of the European Communities has promoted a collaboration among several European institutions to explore analytically the basic aspects of the Phebus F.P. (fission products) experimental programme. The objective of the Phebus F.P. project is to study, in an in-pile integral test facility, the main phenomena which dominate the fission product transport and deposition in LWRs under severe accident conditions. The first phase of this activity was devoted to a review of national source term studies; the main phenomena and corresponding range of parameters were identified. The second phase concerned the analysis of the preliminary lay-out of the Phebus F.P. circuit, to define the test conditions which would provide the best simulation of the main phenomena. This paper presents a general overview of the calculations performed, describes the results of one accident scenario (the TMLB) and draws some conclusions on the Phebus F.P. facility.
