This is the final report of the CEC combustion research programme 'Kinetics and mechanisms of elementary chemical processes of importance in combustion'. It summarises and describes the research project. Emphasis is given to the main achievements and key results of the research. The objectives of the coordinated combustion kinetics programme were to produce a high quality database for the kinetics of gas phase reactions for use in modelling combustion processes and to obtain an understanding of the detailed mechanisms of chemical change during hydrocarbon oxidation, soot formation and NO(x) formation from fuel nitrogen in the combustion process.
