SIMULAZIONE FLUODINAMICA SOTTO CAMBIAMENTO DI STATO DEL FLUSSO DEI MATERIALI DI CARICA NELL'ALTOFORNO
The aim of the research reported here was to develop means for describing the movement of solids in the blast furnace, particularly a 1:10 scale physical model reproducing a section across the diameter of Taranto BF nr. 5, and a mathematical model of coke movement in the bosh. By this means has been analysed the effect on burden descent of process control measures and actions that may be adopted in industry. Experiments have also been performed to determine the travelling times of the ferrous burden at various points along the radius, and the depth of the raceway on various blast furnaces under different working conditions. A physical model has been built to study burden descent at a reduced scale. The descent characteristics of the materials can be recorded photographically through a multilayer glass panel. Effects due to variations of important parameters such as productivity, coke size and raceway dimensions have been simulated by means of this model. The experiment reveals that the depth of the raceway varies from 1000 to 1400 mm. This parameter can be analysed through a relation between dimensionless numbers derived from the literature. The time required for the ferrous materials to traverse the 14 m diameter blast furnace n. 5 is about five hours in the centre and seven hours near the walls. This difference can be tied in with a level difference of the melting zone amounting to around 7 m between the respective zones.
