THE POWER RAMP TESTING OF LWR FUEL RODS AT THE HIGH FLUX REACTOR IN PETTENFunded under: JRC-NUCFUEL 4C
Since 1973 power ramp and load-follow test programmes utilising pre-irradiated fuel rods from power reactors have been conducted by Kernforschungsanlage (KFA), Juelich and Joint Research Centre (JRC), Petten jointly with Siemens and other international participants at the High Flux Reactor Petten. The Light Water Reactor (LWR) fuel rod tests have been performed in the Pool Side Facility (PSF) of the HFR under representative LWR conditions using reloadable irradiation devices. More than 250 separate tests have been performed with UO(2) and UO(2)/PuO(2) MOX fuel rods of BWR and PWR design. The ramp test programmes performed include start-up ramps, in-situ ramps, modified in-situ ramps and multiple ramps.
