Abstract

Residual mechanical properties have been determined in tension at low (0.0035/s), medium (10/s), and high rates (1000/s), at 550 C, of AISI 316H steel, having previously been subjected to increasing degrees of damage by creep, low cycle fatigue, and irradiation to 2dpa. Strength increase and ductility reduction with respect to the as-received material have been observed. Strain rate hardening characterises the response to dynamic loading in case of single damaging processes, while the superposition of low cycle fatigue and irradiation cause strain rate softening. Instabilities of the deformation process, shown by the flow curves, govern the phenomena.
