HARMONIC EMISSION IN QUASI-OPTICAL GYROTRONSFunded under: FP2-FUSION 10C
In a quasi-optical resonator, the quality factor Q is an increasing function of the frequency. As a result, the harmonic content in the output of a high power quasi-optical gyrotron, designed to operate at the fundamental, is expected to be important. Utilising the slow time scale single particle model, the competition between the fundamental and higher harmonics has been investigated numerically. Small signal as well as nonlinear calculations are presented. The results can be applied to the design of quasi-optical gyrotrons with high power emissions at the second or higher harmonics.
