The limitation of ablation on rational surfaces has been shown to be an efficient mechanism of striation formation during pellet ablation. In JET, a very large striation is observed when the pellet crosses the q=1 surface. This paper presents a thorough analysis of the pellet ablation in this region and shows that an extended shearless zone around q=1 is necessary to reproduce the experimental signal. Such a feature is likely to be an essential ingredient in the understanding of internal disruptions.
