CEC system on job related dose
One of the basic principles defined by the EC to be applied in order to ensure the greatest possible protection of workers and the general public against the dangers arising from ionising radiation is that all exposures have to be kept as low as is reasonably achievable. A European data bank on job-related doses has been created as a useful instrument in the application of this principle. Data are collected by means of a questionnaire circulated to nuclear power plant operators. This set of data is evaluated, the results are discussed at a yearly seminar and finally the information is published. The questionnaire has been designed with the objective that data reported should be compatible with those reported to national authorities, and also with those of the USNRC questionnaire insofar as possible. Results indicate the total collective and average individual doses for plant and contractor personnel, and provide a factual basis for discussions on improvement of radiation protection and for comparisons of the performance of a particular plant with that of others of the same type.
