A perspective of air pollution : The EMEP European network : Activities of the EMEP station of the Joint Research Centre IspraFunded under: JRC-ENVPROT 4C
This report gives an introduction to the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution, the first multilateral European programme for the protection of the environment against air pollution. The "Co-operative Programme for Monitoring and Evaluation of the Long-range Transmission of Air Pollutants in Europe" (EMEP) is discussed and details of its measurement programme are given. The air pollution monitoring activities at the EMEP Station of the Joint Research Centre Ispra are described. Sampling, monitoring and analytical techniques are reported for pollutants in air, atmospheric particulate material and precipitation, including sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, ozone, sulphate, nitrate, ammonium, chloride, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, pH, conductivity, and total suspended matter. Data obtained during the measurement period from 1986 to 1988 are summarised in various tables and figures and some trends are discussed.
