Accurate coulometric determination of the uranium content of uranium reference materials - Part 1 : Study on the interference of impurities
Controlled potential coulometry is considered to be a reliable method for the determination of the uranium content of candidate uranium reference materials. Although base materials selected for that purpose have a high purity, they nevertheless contain traces of metallic impurities such as copper, iron and molybdenum, which might interfere in the electrochemical process of uranium reduction. A study of the behaviour of these elements during the pre-electrolysis and electrolysis of uranium solutions has been performed. An home-made coulometer designed for high precision analysis has been used for that purpose.
