Pesticides: analytical requirements for compliance with EC directives (Water Pollution Research Report no. 11)
There are several problem areas which relate to the analysis of pesticides in the environment. Since several hundred pesticides are in use, it is impossible to monitor samples for all pesticides. Deciding which pesticides to monitor is therefore a major issue. Analytical methods used to monitor samples need to be developed further. Many of the existing methods have been inadequately tested. For some pesticides no methods have been developed to monitor samples at the limit level. Multi-residue methods of analysis also need to be developed and tested. Such methods would facilitate the rapid screening of samples for a wide range of pesticides.
