Temperature data from about 6000 boreholes in the Federal Republic of Germany were computerised, controlled and adjusted with BGR/NLfB's in- house database. A final database has been established containing formation temperatures of measured boreholes as a function of depth, as well as the data quality and all necessary additional information. A system has been developed which can record temperature measurements in boreholes, calculate formation temperatures by considering their quality and establish maps of borehole sites, temperature and gradient/depth profiles and isoline maps for any depths and scales. The system was used to produce maps for 1000 and 2000 m depth for Germany. The sometimes considerable deviations from previous presentations mainly result from the necessary corrections applied for BHT-data. Temperature data are on average 5 to 10 K higher than previously calculated. Therefore, the geothermal resources and reserves will also be higher than expected.
