Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The object of the research was to develop and set up means of transporting and handling loads, so as to increase productivity and improve safety conditions in mines. It was carried out in three French coalfields and took the following forms : - Producing a technical document for Birail users, chiefly for the benefit of persons involved in training, design and maintenance - Computerising the transport lines so that a means of transport would be selected according to the loads and the functions of the line - Defining a method of fitting and removing timbering from an AKH worked longwall face - Researching means of transport to carry equipment and personnel throughout the whole of the new Creutzberg coalfield - Developing a method of transferring loads on the monorail haulage line - Studying and perfecting a method of transport with a scraper cutting line - Studying the feasibility of replacing the JOY SCOUT CAR with a combined means of transport, designing and testing a prototype and converting existing means of transport.
