Abstract

The aim of this study is to assess the implications for both the energy and agriculture sectors of producing fuels from agricultural feedstocks. The crops under consideration are conventional agricultural crops and forestry crops, and the fuel types are liquid fuels (ethanol, methanol and vegetable oil) and also solid fuel for combustion. The study first evaluates each of the feedstocks in terms of energy producing potential, then calculates the most cost effective way of producing each of the fuels in question and finally makes an assessment of the competitiveness of each of the fuels in the energy market.
