A study of transitory states in the coking process
This study is based on site tests and analyses the transitory states in the coking process. A battery of 26 furnaces was computerised, so that the temperature of the furnace walls and of the coke cake on removal from the furnace could be measured systematically. The variation in heat supply and intake of heating gas made it possible to establish a transfer function, linking the temperature of the smoke in the top of the flue with the rate of heat release. When the relationships between the various parameters characterising the operation of coke furnaces are studied, there are found to be very close correlations between a number of them. The results obtained all add to knowledge of this field; they may even make it possible to complete a first control loop, which would adjust the rate of heat release according to the mean temperature measured in the top of the flue.
