Abstract

There are comprehensive equilibrium codes in JET which tackle the free boundary problem. A new predictive fixed boundary code has been developed, which has two main features. Firstly it is an inverse equilibrium code: it serves to predict what the current should be in the poloidal coils when a plasma with a specific cross-sectional shape is required. Secondly, because it is based on a semi-analytic method and accepts a simple ironcore model for the JET transformer, it is a very fast code. The validity of the code has been tested against experimental data.
