Abstract

The idea for development of a new opto-electronic measuring device was conceived, combining at the same time the potential for thorough automation, remote sensing and improved performance, through : - quasi-continuous size measurement control - a precise description of size measurement and - knowledge of morphological parameters of the granulate. The sinter pieces fall freely between a light source and a photodiode camera. This camera sees only one line at a time. Through successive readings, a complete image of the particles falling in front of it is reconstructed. Treating this image allows determination of the dimensional characteristics, then the weight, of each granulate. From these elements, a size measure curve may be constructed. Remote size measurement of a sinter lot using an optical method is a new and different process compared with screening and weighing measures.
