Sampling of volatile organic compounds
The paper describes and discusses current methods for the sampling of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in indoor air. After specifying the particular requirements of the indoor environment and defining the term VOC, the three basic sampling principles - grab sampling, active and passive (diffusion) sorbent sampling - are presented. Sampling equipment is described and the advantages and drawbacks of the various methods are discussed. Special attention is given to sorbent sampling, the most widely used technique. Methods for cleaning and storage of sorbent cartridges are presented.
