  • A costed evaluation of options for the reduction of photochemical oxidant precursors - Volume 1 : Results of three possible scenarios for the abatement of photochemical oxidant precursors


Photochemical oxidants, with ozone as their main component, may have adverse effects on human health and the environment. Modelling studies indicate that substantial reductions in photochemical oxidant precursors - oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) - would be needed to reduce ozone concentrations to acceptable levels. The possibilities of reducing precursor emissions were investigated. This volume examines the reduction of emissions which might be achieved if emission reduction technologies were applied. EC-wide emission reduction scenarios and the time needed for their implementation are presented.
