Abstract

A severe accident in a light water reactor would lead to the release of large amounts of radioactive material into the environment. Computer codes have been used to quantify the complex events involved in core degradation and fission product transport. The PHEBUS Fission Product (FP) program aimed to improve the accuracy of information about FP physical and chemical behaviour, validate codes for source term computation and provide a large-scale facility for integral and separate effects experimentation. An update on the status of this program around the end of 1989 is presented.
