Abstract

The interactions between urania and steel were studied under thermal gradient in an atmosphere of sodium up to a maximum temperature of 2500 C. The phenomena which occur in steady state conditions, namely steel relocation, changes of steel composition, migration of oxygen with changes of urania stoichiometry, transport, recrystallisation and sintering of urania and wettability changes of urania by steel were investigated by metallography, scanning electron microscopy and microanalysis.
