For 3 years - between 1962 and 1966 - the vertical thermal gradient at the southern foot of the Alps has been recorded continuously with the aid of electrical thermometers placed at 120 m and 10 m along the old meteorological tower. At present, 2 thermometers are installed at 80 m and 4 m along the ESSOR chimney. The inversion frequently reaches up to 5 and the negative gradient up to -3 C, but during the strong Foehn winds both gradients are very close to 0 C.
