Refractories for the steel industryFunded under: ECSC-STEELRES 7C
This book represents the proceedings of a conference on refractories for the steel industry held in Luxembourg, 7-8 September 1989. Since refractories have a direct bearing on the cost and cleanliness of steel production, investigations into their utilisation and performance form an important part of the ECSC steel research programme. The aim of the book is to present the results of this research and to explore the latest research and development activities of the refractory producers themselves. The work is arranged in four sections. The first part includes considerations of stress and wear of refractory materials, whilst the second and third sections cover a wide range of related topics, including the role of the European Federation of Manufacturers of Refractory Products (PRE), the use of databases, and the implications for refractories of modern steel production. The fourth section concentrates on advanced materials and their role in meeting future steelmaking requirements.
