Air quality in the Thessaloniki area : Monitoring campaign in September 1987Funded under: JRC-ENVPROT 4C
Within the framework of a collaboration between the JRC Ispra and the Ministry of Northern Greece, an intensive campaign of air pollution measurements in the Greater Thessaloniki area was performed in September 1987. Monitoring surveys were made by the JRC mobile unit equipped with conventional and remote sensors, assisted by the Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki. From the reconstructed wind-field trajectories and the data collected by the mobile unit, evidence was obtained for a transport of pollutants from the industrial area to the western part of the city, under wind circulation conditions typical for that period of the year. During the campaign an intercomparison of conventional and remote sensors (Cospec V and Brewer spectrometers) took place.
