Abstract

Concentrations of formaldehyde, heavier aldehydes, other specific volatile organic compounds (VOCs), total VOC, respirable particulate matter, as well as temperature, relative humidity and air exchange rate, were measured in 83 offices. An inquiry was carried out among the building occupants, in order to identify rooms with lowest and highest complaint rates. No significant difference for VOC and formaldehyde was observed between these two groups of rooms. The following concentration levels were detected: formaldehyde 0.045 mg/m3 (median), 0.122 mg/m3 (90 percentile) and 0.139 mg/m3 (maximum); and total VOC 0.22 mg/m3 (median), 0.87 mg/m3 (90 percentile) and 3.93 mg/m3 (maximum).
